On the 8th May
Tagore birth Anniversary
was celebrated with due
eclat in the Darjeeling
N. N. H. P. hall under the
joint auspices of Rabin-
dra Parisad and the Hall.
The Governor Dr H C.
Mnkherjee was the guest
in chiei.

After the opening
song Sri S. Sanyal wel-
comed all present and
stressed on the manifold
intellectual activities of
Poet. Rabindra Nath. Dr.
S. K. Pandit, Secretary
of the Parisad, next spoke
on Poet's Social philoso-
phy. Tagore *as a great
reformer His views on
the abolition of caste
System, Communal prob-
lems, emancipation of
women & similar other
Social evils were discussed'
at length and critically
examined. Realisation of
the fundamental Unity
amongst men was the
only solution for commu-
nal and sectarian problems.
That was Tagor's consi-
dered view. . All his Social
philosophy was inspired
by his fundamental belief
in the Unity of all beings.
Tagore was a believer in
the eternal values of life
and he wanted to "live
there. There lies Ta-
goro's greatness.

After a composite pro-

gramme of d nee and
songs, Visarjan, Tagire h
noted drama, was staged
with great success.

Welfare Centre, the 93rd
Birth Anniversary of Ra-
bindranath Tagore wrs
celebrated here on 8th
May 1954 A largo num.
ber of local people, par-
ticipated. Competition of
several varieties for pri-
mary school students were

NEW LABOUR WELFARE
CENTRE

Minister for Labour, ope-
ned a Labour Welfare
Centre at Pokhn'abong Ba-
zar under Sukiapokhari
Thana, Darjeeling Mana-
eers,. office staff and labou-
rers of ma ly tea gardens
participated in the cere-
mony.

explained the rights and
responsibilities of the La
bourers of the country.
He also explained the
benefits accruing, from such
Labour Welfare Centres
and urged labourers- to"
utilise the Centre fully.

NO CHOLERA IN KALIMPONG
17 cases of diarrhoea
& vomiting with symptoms
like .those of Cholera have
occurred since 21st April,
1954 and thcie have beeri
six deaths so far. The
District Health Officer,
Darjeeling arid the Muni-
cipality investigated into
those cases and sent,
samples of stool to the
Municipal Laboratory at
Darjeeling fur culture-and
bacterio'ogical examina-
tion. From the report
received it appears that
those are not cases of
cholera says a notice issued
by Kalimpong Municipa-
lity, Kalimpong.
