To prevent over-felliDg
of trees, in violation of
tbe approved working Plan
of private forests, and to
provide for a more deterrent
punishment to those who
are responsible for the
exhaustion and depletion
of private forests, the
Government of West Ben-
gal purpose to amend the
West Bengal 'Private Fo-
rests Aot, 1948. Accor-
dingly, a Bill has been
published in an Extra-
ordinary Issue of the
Calcutta Gazette. This
Bill seeks to provide,
amongst others, for en-
hanced punishment f r
those who fell trees in
private forests thoughtles-
Iy in violation of the
terms and conditions of
the approved Working
Plan. In case of private
forests for which no Work-
ing Plan has been ap-
proved. . felling of trees
without obtaining' prior
permission of the Regional
Forest Officer in writing
has also been made a
punishable offence

7. The undersigned reser-
ves the right to accept the

any reason.
