GORUBATHAN

An agricultural exhibi-
btion for the second year
was held at Gorubathan —
an interior in Kalimpong
Subdivision. Sri A Shokur,
Deputy Minister, Agricul-
ture and Animal Husban-
dary, West Bengal opened
the Exhibition on the 19th
February, in presence of
local people and cultiva-
tors. Sri K. K. Kay, i a s ,
Deputy Commissioner, Dar-
jeeling, Sri B Bigohi, S P ,
Darjeeling, Sri S. N. Roy,
S. D. 0 , Kalimp ng ;>ri
K. Sengupta, Dy. Director
of Agriculture, . several
other officials an ncn-offi-
cials were also present on
the occasion.
The Deputy Minister
addressed the gathering in
the morning and a cul-
tivator's Rally in the after-
noon. He spoke on the
development programme of
the Government of West
Bengal and also briefly on
the five year plan. He
said that the National
Government gave highest
priority to the improve-
ment of agriculture and
as a result of which they
had been able to get more
food-crops, specially rice
in West Bengal and thus
abolish Rationing and lift
up all restrictions imposed
on the movement of rice.
He, however, urged the
cultivators to follow the
scientific methods of cul-
tivation in order to get
increased production. More
food-crops would fetch
more money, which would
ultimately better their
economic condition, be
added Reffering to cer-
tain demands made by
the local people he said
that if they also volun-
teered to contribute in
cash and kind, Government
would surely see their way
to extending their helping
hand
The District Unit of the
Publicity Department ex-
hibited 35 mm and 16rom
films which included "Ja-
panese method of culti-
vation. Sonarpur Aiapanch,
Around Bengal" produced
by West Bengal Govern-
ment as also interesting

A meeting of the Ex-
Patients and Patients of
S. B. Dey T.B. Sanatorium
was held recently at the
Sanatorium Hall. The
meeting was presided over
by Dr. A. C. Guha Supe-
rintendent of the Sana-
torium Manv Ex Patients
from Darjeeling, Kurseong,
Kalimpong and Jalpaiguri
attended the meeting and
discused various problems
regarding the general wel-
fare of the Ex patients.
In that meeting a body
called "S. B. Dey Rauato
rium Ex-pati'.nts Associa-
tion" was formed. The
aims and objects of the
Association are to amelio-
rate the distressing con-
ditions of the Ex Patients
and mostly to rehabilitate
them socially and econo-
mically.
Dr A. C Guha, Supe-
rintendent of the Sanato-
rium was elected the pre
sident of the Ex-Patients
Association. He in his
speech moved that the
Government of West Ben-
gal be a?ked regarding
the Rehabilitation cf the
Ex-Patients and to grant
a financial assistance to
them.
W7anted a Junior Cer-
tificated Female Nurse-
cum Midwife registered
with West Bengal Nurs-
ing Council for appoint-
ment on a temporary basis
in the Deshbandhu Mater-
nity & Child Welfare
Centre at Step-Aside, Dar-
jeeling. in the scale of
pay of Rs. 90-4-130/-, plus
Dearness allowance Rs.35,
Additional Dearness Allow-
ance Rs 5'- Fixed T. A.
Rs. 10/- and Compensatory
allowance (a), 25% of basic
pay per mensem with free
furnished quarters. Pre-
ference will be given to
independent candidate.
