DR. MOOKERJEE'S DEATH

Head Lamas and
other representatives of
the leading Bhatia, Lep-
oha, Sherpa, Tamang and
Yolmoa Buddhist Monas-
teries of Darjeeling met
Shri T. Wangdi, Deputy
Minister, Tribal Welfare
and Excise Departments,
Government of West Ben-
gal, at Darjeeling on the
2nd September, and at
the latter'* suggestion
unanimously agreed to
offer special condolence
prayers in their respective
Monasteries to pay homage
to the memory of Late
Dr. H. C. Mookerjee,
the beloved Governor
of West Bengal. They
have deeided to do so on
the 20th of September,
1956, a Full Moon day,
at 10 A.M.
Earlier the Deputy
Minister had contacted
the representatives of the
leading Buddhist Monas-
teries of Kurseong and
Kalimpong, and it is
learnt that they have also
fully agreed to pay homage
to the memory of the
late Governor in their
respective Monasteries on
20th of September, 1956.
It is very likely that
the other minor Buddhist
Monasteries throughout
the District of Darjeeling
will also observe the spe.
cial condolence on the
same day.
BHUTAN AND SIKKIM
PARTICIPATING IN BUDDHA
JAYARTI EXHIBITION
Gangtok, Sept. 7
Bhutan and Sikkim
are participating in the
Buddha Jayanti Exhibi-
tion to be held in Delhi
in November and later on
in the prinoipal cities of
India as well as at Bodh
Gaya. Rani Chuni Dorji
went to New Delhi on
30th August last with
twenty maunds of artioles
representing the different
aspeots of religion and
art in Bhutan. Some of
these were precious heir-
looms brought for the
first time out of monas-
teries and the Palaoe.
Scriptures, ioons, paintings
and metallic- objects are
included in this collection
from Bhutan.
It is understood that
the exhibits from Sikkim
have been oolleoted in
Gangtok and are being
sorted out by Maharaj
Kumari Ooocoo-la. These
exhibits, it is understood,
will be taken by the
Maharaj Kumari herself
to Delhi. The Sikkim
collection as far as our
knowledge goes is also as
rich and varied as the
Bhutan one.

is the theme of a new
scheme of the Indian
Counoil of Agricultural
Research.
To popularise floricul-
ture, it is intended to
arrange competitions at
different stages in the
raising of oompound gar-
dens in bungalows, besi-
des gardens and lawns in
schools and oolleges and
oommunity projeot areas.
These competitions will
be run in coordination
with the Ministry of Edu-
cation and the Community
Projeots Administration.
State Governments are
being asked to include
floriculture in the syllabi
prescribed for instruction j
under the subject of hor-
ticulture in their Agri-
cultural colleges.
It has been deoided
to set up a floriculture
oommittee under the
I.C.A.R. to enoourage the
cultivation of ornamental
trees, shrubs and annuals.
