• ADMINISTRATION
The administrative
machinery of this place
is in melting pot. We
have several times through
this column brought to
the notice of the authori-
ties about the situation
prevailing, but they have
proved to be a cry in
th-5 wilderness.
The prices of essential
commodities are going up
daily. The transport rate
from Siliguri to this place
has gone up from one
rupee to Rupees Two
eight per maund The
Government (took of rice
is not adequate and the
people are not getting
regular supply.
We need not remind
the affairs of the muni-
cipality. It still goes
along without an overseer,
ihere are cases of encroa-
chment, defective cons-
truction and unauthorised
buildings but there is
none to look after this.
The technical staffs
of the N.E.S. are yet to
arrive though it was in-
augurated in the month
of April. There are various
departments and research
centres, where we find

big signboards but what
praotical works are being
done there no one knows.
There are so many
other things and these are
going from bad to worse
yet the authorities are
doing nbthing. This offi-
cial apathy is of course
due to the lack of protest
from any side.
DARJEELING ENQUIRY
COMMITTEE
Kalimpong, Dec. 15
The l>arjeeling En-
quiry Committee will be
having its sitting at Ka-
limpong on 19th Dec. at
Town Hall. It is learnt
this will be the final
Sitting of the Committee.
