LONDON MEWS LETTER

I understand that
besides France and Swit-
zerland many other Con-
tinental countries including
Italy. Norway, Spain and
Czechoslovakia are con-
templating to organise
Himalayan expedit una in
Summer thn year. Since
the conquest of Everest,
Western countries are
taking keener interest in
mouutaineering. Various
European University stu-
dents are also contempla
ting to form teams of
mountaineers to climb
different peaks of the
mightiest mountain in
the world. Quite a number
of Geographical Societies
havealready communicated
with' the Institute of
Mountaineering it Darjee-
ling for details of different
peaks, maps charts etc.

Great Britain. Mr. Sunder
Kabadi (A.B Patrika) was
elected President; Mr; B.B
Ray Chaudhuri (The Hi-
uialayan Time*) was elected
Secretary; Dr. Tara Pado

Committee consists of Mr.

I understand that
Mrs. Pandit will be in
India by the time this
letter is published, and
is unlikely to continue
her present position as
High Commissioner for
India in London. Already
there is speculation about
the name of the next
High Commissioner. There
is every possibility that
Mr. K.M Pannikar will-
sucoeed Mrs. Pandit.

Hanuman Jayanti at Gangtok

Hanuman Jayanti was cele-
brated at Gangtok on April 14.
A big procession composed of
people from all walks of life
was led by Mr, A. B. Pant and
Mrs. Pant. TheXprocession left
tbe Residency HtSl a.m. with
Bhajans and Kirtan by the men
of the Punjab regiment sta-
tioned at Gangtok and the
pujahs were performed at 6.30
a.m. There were some Bbutia
Lamas also who offered prayers
at the time of the pujah.
