not been introduced, the
United Kingdom and the
United States of America,
questions have been asked
why they also should not
adopt the metrio system
when India is doing it.
In the past 100 years 58
countries have gone over
to the metrio system.
They have not regretted
their decision. Many of
these disoarded their uni-
form indigenous systems
in favour of the metrio
one. Many neighbouring
countries in Asia also
follow this system.

There is no doubt
that in the long-run the
system will endear itself
to the people of India
and the saving in time
and effort to all classes
of people, particularly to
the younger generation at
sohools and colleges, will
be immense.

What is more impor-
tant, a uniform system
of weights and measures
will be another valuable
contribution towards na-
tional unity. At present
the great diversity of
weights and measures is
a dividing faotor. The
day . when an Indian citi-
zen oan travel aoroas the
oountry without having
to adjust his mind oons- -
tantly te it multiplicity \
of weights and measures, -
a great step towards na-
tional unity will : have
been taken.
