The new'ly formed
District Savings Advisory
Committee met at Dar-
jeeling,, recently for the
first time under the chair-
manship of Sri M, N.
Choudhury, Deputy Com-
missioner, Darjeeling. The
newly formed committee
consists of twentyfive
niriiibtrs including thirteen
prominent non-officials re-
presenting various U enli-
ties of fbe district,
J he Committee dis-
oussed at length the va
rious aspects fir the in-
tensification of Small Sa-
vings drive in the district
Dissemination of know-
ledge regarding the im-
portance of savings invest-
ment and fostering savings
movement both in town
and in rural areas of the
district will be the main
function of the committee.
The committee will
meet once in every two
months to review its
works .

ed by the local cultivators.
Besides, the local eg
ricultuial officer also ex-
p'ained to the cultivators
about the improved me-
thods of cultivation and
to take advantage of the
farm practices.

It is understood re-
liably that generating po-
wer of the Bijotibari Hy-
del Project has increased
from 360 Kw to 500 Kw.
It is expected being com-
missioned b fore this ye»r
end. This is this District's
first rural electrification
scheme.
It is also understood
that the construction works
of the Jaldhaka Hydel
Pr< ject are going on ra-
pidly. The construction
bf diversion barrage" has'
been started from the 1st
September, while - more
. than fifteen hundred feet,
tunnelling : had., already
bean completed. '

to one in the final of the
Governor's Cup inter-sub-
divisional f..ot ball - tourna-
ment.- The eentre forwards
., Aggai Tshering and ;the
Centre half Pemba scored
for: Kalimpong and the
Centre., -forward Kassim
scored for Darjoeling. In
the losing semif inalit s
luatoh Kurseong Eleven
defeated Siliguri Eleven
by two goals to nils being
scored by Centre forward
Tensing and Right in
Tulei Ozha. The Tourna-
ment was organised by
Kalimpong Sports Asso-
ciation at Darjeeling with
the Co operation of D. D.

tigers, donated by the
Soviet Union, arrived here
inst night acoompanied'
by their' l3-mon,t1i male
cub. After a fortnight's
acclimatization they will
be released In a special
open air tiger park at
the Himalayan Zoological
Park in Buroh Hill.
