learnt here today.

Section 3 of the Cri
minal Law Amendment
Act enable* the Govern-
ment to deolare by noti-
fication "any area adjoin-
ing the frontier* of India
to be a notified area."

The Aot wae paiied
in May 1U61, and the
Centre had. now obtained
tbe view* of tbe State
Governments concerned in
thii respect.

However, in .view of
tbe current general elec-
tion, the Government of
India ii understood to
have decided to postpone
the issue of sttoh notifi-
cation a.

TWO SHOT DEAD IN
NEPAL JAIL-BREAK

Kathmandu, Feb. 7
Two prisoner! were
shot dead when guards
fired on prisoners, esti-
mated at over 100, who
were making a freedom
bid last Sunday from
Palpa Prison in West
Nepal.

Twenty-five of them
were later reported to
have been rearrested with
the help of tbe Army.

grass Committee baa ex-
pelled from tbe organiza-
tion for six years 27 t>f
its members "for standing
as candidates in the next
general elections against
tbe official nominees."
The expulsion orders,
issued by the PCC. Pre-
sident, Mr. AtuLya Ghosh,
have been oommuoioated
to the members concer-
ned through district com-
mittees.

Tbe orders cover all
the districts, exoept West
Dinajpur, Midnapore, Mal-
da and Caloutta Seven
member?—the largest from
tbe district*—are from
24-Pstganas.

The figures for other
districts are Jalpaiguri,
five Murthidabad and
Nadta, three each Darjee
ling and Hong hi.v. two
each; Coooh Bebar. Puru-
lia, Bankura, Burdawan
and Birbbum, one eaeh.

Tbe Congress President,
Mr. Sanjeeva Ready, said
at i the Patna session of
the Congress that tbey
would not wait till tbe
end of the general elec-
tions to take disciplinary
action against those Con-
gressmen who would try
to sabotage the cases of
official candidates.

MORE INDIAN AID FOR
WATER SUPPLY BOARD
Kathmandu, Feb. 7

Indian aid mission
here has released to the
Nepal Government's Canal
and Drinking. Water Sup-
ply Board a sum of Rs.
16 lakhs in Nepalese cur-
rency for finanoing the
irrigatioo, water supply
and small power deve-
lopment sohemea in Nepal.

This will bring the
total of funds released
during the current fiscal
year to Rs. 48 lakhs in
Nepalese currency as sti-
pulated in the agreement'
between the two countries,
signed in April last. year.
Besides the provision ' of
funds, India ' has been
assisting the board with
technical personnel.

India .had already
made available Rs. 160
lakhs in Nepalese currency
for similar development
works prior to April, 1961.
Six. irrigation and 14
water supply sohemes
have already been com-
pleted with the aid from
India.
