S1LIGURI INDUSTRIAL ESTATE NEARING COMPLETION

Production to Begin This Year

Construction work for
eight rentable unite of
tbe Industrial Estate at
an expenditure of Rs. 6
lakh is going on round
tbe clock and ia likely to
be oompleted by tbe end
of June. Besidea the rent-
ed'units, there will be
three plots where aheda
will be construct! d by
the parties concerted for
setting up powerloom
units. Tbrre will also be
a unit to bouse the finish-
ing plants for powerloom
produots for which the
North Bengal Industrial
Cooperative Sooiety has a
scheme of Rs. 8 lakh.

The Industrial Estate
at Sil'guri will provide
apace with modern faci-
lities to loosl industries
and provide looal people
with industrial bias, ha-
ving limited resources,
faoilitiea for atarting small
scale industries having
prospects in the area.
One of the units will be
reserved for food' prece-
ding.

It may be stated that

the total estimated outlay
for Industrial Estates in
the Third Plan in West
Bengal ia Rs. 186 lakh,
of which Rs. 36 lakh
will be spent for oomple-
tion of the construction
of some of tbe Estates
taken up during tbe Se-
cond Five Year Plan
period.

Under tbe sobeme of
Industrial Estates it is
proposed to provide built
up faetory spaoe at rea-
sonable rents either on
a purely rental or hire
purchase basis with all
essential amenities like
water, eleotricity, roads,
sewerage, sanitation etc,
provided. This is intended
to enable the small scale
units to secure operating
conditions conductive to
efficiency of production,
maintenance of uniform
standards, economic utili-
sation cf materials, mar-
keting faoilitiea etc

Common services like
a fully equipped health
unit, canteen, administra-
tive office etc, are also
provided in the Estates.

W. BENGAL REJECTS
CHINESE. PLEA

Calcutta, May 16
The West Bengal Go-
vernment is understood
to have rejeoted the Chi.
nese authorities plea that
no one from inside their
tra'de agency io Kalim-
pong had fired air guns
at an Indian guard out-
side, injuring him, as had
been alleged by some
Opposition members in
the Lok Sabha recently.

The West Bengal Go-
vernment's rejection fol-
lowed a protest made by
the Chinese authorities
against the allegation.

Darjeeling, May 16
Kalimpong featured
prominently in Radio
Lhasa's Tibeten broad-
casts yesterday. Admit-
ting the deteriorating Sino-
Indian relations since
August 1959 and making
India responsible for what
it termed the latter's ag-
gressive patrolling on the
border areas, the broad-
casts accused , India of
encouraging Tibetan refu-
gees in general to indulge
in political activities par-
ticularly in the Kalimpong
area.

Meanwhile, two more
Chinese nationals in Ka-
limpong were served with
not.oas to quit the district
