TELEGRAMS COMING
FROM LHASA NOW
New Delhi, Nov. SO
Mr. Nehru informed
the Rajya Sabha today
that after a gap of some
days and a protest from
India "we have been get-
ting oooasional telegrams
fiom the Indian Consulate.
General at Lhasa".
The Prime Minister
told Mr. Mani that the
P and T service with their
equipment which India
had in Tibet were trans-
fered to the Government
of China after the 1954
treaty in regard to Tibet
was aigned. "We thought
it would be a good thing
after the treaty to have
these made over to them
(Chinese)".
Earlier, Mr. Denuh
Singh. Deputy Minister,
told Mr. Krishna Chandra
that this transfer of equip-
ment was made without
compensation as a gea lire
of friendship on April II,
1955.
He a!eo said that the.
Chinese authorities in li-
bet held increased the
telegraphio rates about 12
times. It was probable
that this increase was
maie to plaoe a further
curb on the communica-
tions of the Indian Con-
sulate-General in Lhasa
with India. The rates for
telegrams between India
and Tibet were now tho
sama as those between
India and China.
