The cavalry of the Israelites advancing from the 1. has already joined
battle with the Amalekite cavalry r. Six men are dismounted; one
(whose legs are represented in the preceding plate) lies prostrate 1.; a
second, sallen beneath the feet of the Israelite’s horse, desends himsels
with his shield held close over his head; a third, unhelmeted, retreats
with upraised shield ; a fourth, near the r. corner, advances his pike to
receive the charge os an Israelite horseman. There are twenty-one
figures in all. Signed hieronimvs near centre below.

On the 1. are three Israelite horsemen in pursuit, the foremost os
whom is attacked by an Amalekite horseman brandishing a mace. In
the 1. foreground a kneeling foot soldier has lifted a dead and stripped
comrade on his shoulder. In the centre the general of the Amalekites,
distinguished by his richly ornamented breast-plate, stands by his horse,
on the other side os which is his squire. Further back, sour riders
retreat towards the r.; two other figures are indicated in outline
behind. To the r. two men are busy loading a mule ; the body and legs
of another appear in outline near the r. margin. In the r. background
a road leads up a hill crowned by a rock and trees. In the distance 1. of
this hill is a long line os mountains. Signed mocetvs near lower margin,
slightly 1. of the centre, with some scratches to the 1. of the signature,
which might reasonably be read as 1196.

irregularities of surface.
