THE Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Insti-
tute, of Rochester, N. Y., has recently had on view
in the gallery of the Department of Fine Arts, an
exhibition of photographs, including portraits,
landscapes and genre subjects by Mrs. Gertrude
Kasebier, of New York. From April 2g to May 6,
the Mechanics Institute will hold an exhibition and
sale of Art Handicraft. The last day for the recep-
tion of the exhibits is April 18. Entry blanks, which
must be returned April 10, may be obtained from
the Art Handicraft Exhibition Committee, care of
the Institute. The Eastman Building, in which the
exhibition will be held, is fireproof. Jewelry, metal
work and all articles of decided value will be placed
each night in the Institute vaults and watchmen
will be in regular attendance.
THE MAE BENSON SCHOOL OF APPLIED DESIGN
has removed from its Madison Avenue address to
more commodious quarters in the Hotel Stanley,
124 West 47th Street. This well-known school,
which has done much to stimulate artistic impulse
in the held of practical designing, and has been
carrying on a worthy and progressive work, recently
held its sixth annual exhibition in its new quarters.
There were shown a number of examples of inter-
esting work. The school, which has long been
successful in its held, is noteworthy for its results
in silks and cottons, brocades, linen damask, oil-
cloth and wall papers, and is giving special atten-
tion to the problems of costume designing and
applied arts in general.
THE DETROIT MUSEUM OF ART has had on view
an exhibition of medal paintings from the Art
Department of the Louisiana Purchase Exhibition,
lent by Mr. Ambrose Petry, of New York. Among
the canvasses included were A 0/ BaM
by George Herbert McCord; Bea IFaM,
by Joseph R. De Camp; and TAe /wwer Ffar^or,
by Henry B. Sclrnell.
AT ITS annual meeting, the American Society of
Miniature Painters elected the following new
members: Mrs. Lesley M. Bush-Brown, of New-
burgh, N. Y.; Miss Clara F. Howard, New York
XXXVIII
