Japanese Prints
The Japanese alone have had in them enough
of both art and craft to make, for the people, large
numbers of perfected works in color. Outline im-
pressions from engraved wood-blocks were colored
by water-color printed from other blocks—one
block for each color—the result being our Japanese
color-print. Here, as hardly anywhere else, the
- artist's aims, the possibilities of the process, and the
the principles of design, are in complete unison.
This art is high and fine because it depends not upon
interests artistically extraneous, but upon the esthetic
fundamentals, upon beautiful arrangements of lines, forms, values and
colors. BOLTON CoiT BROWN.
P. S.—The May number of this magazine deals editorially with the
very large collection which I am now selling. Schools of Design, Art
Schools, Collectors, Museums, can be supplied. The old school and all the
standard masters—and these only.
Write or call, Studio 18, 51 West 10th Street, New York City.
