RECOLlECTIONSofACOURTrAIHTER

By H. J. THADDEUS, R.H.A., F.R.G.S. There is not a dull page in this fas-
cinating work, the record of a life full of variety and interest. The author sketches
his student days in London and Paris with the pen of a Du Maurier, and then he
takes us to Florence, where he enjoyed the intimate friendship of the Duke and
Duchess of Teck; he gives us a charming picture of their family life and of Her Maj-
esty the Queen in early girlhood, and many delightful letters from Princess Mary
to the author are published after submission to Her Majesty. The whole book
abounds with new and amusing anecdotes of eminent or notable persons; it is
written with spontaneity and wit and contains some piquant revelations. Fully
illustrated. Decorated cloth, $3.50 net. Postage, 20 cents.

JAMESAMcNEILL WHISTLER
Memories of James A. McNeill Whistler. By THOMAS WAY. Of the
many books on Whistler, issued since his death in 1903, few of them suggest the
real charm of this craftsman, such as it was the privilege of the author to know
him—the untiring student and worker, rather than the brilliant figure in society
or keen fighter. Illustrated with an original etching by Whistler and orig-
inal lithographs. Square demy 8vo. Cloth, $3.00 net. Postage, 15 cents

FEN.FENCIL AND (HAIR
Special Midwinter Number of “The International Studio,” 1912. A
series of drawings by contemporary European artists. The originals are executed
in pen, lead pencil, charcoal and black and colored chalks, and, with few exceptions,
each of the 150 works illustrated have not before been published. The volume
contains representative examples of the work of most of the leading contempo-
rary illustrators of Great Britain, France, Germany, Holland, Austria and Sweden.
One hundred and fifty illustrations. Cloth, $3.00 net. Postage, 35 cents.

(i I DE MAUPASSANT

Recollections of Guy de Maupassant. By his Valet, FRANCOIS. Trans-
lated by Maurice Reynolds. During the last ten years of his life Guy de Mau-
passant, the celebrated French novelist, was almost constantly accompanied both
at home and abroad by his faithful servant Frangois, who has just published this
account of the days he spent caring for his beloved master. Like most Frenchmen,
he was very fond of female society ... in fact, Guy du Maupassant had a
fatal fascination for women by being good looking and of a generous nature.
Frangois has here given a most interesting picture of the master to whom he
was so devoted. Decorated cloth, $3.00 net. Postage, 20 cents.
