end (xvi, neatly written): Thys booke was putte oute to be lyned by Stephen Edrych
parson of Shatsham (Chattisham or Shottisham) onto master hugh Candelesby for the
sum off xls. to be payde to the same master hugh att the fest of the puryfycatyon of our
lady 1384 after the deth of whych stephen the same booke cam to the hands of one Mr
John Yxworth sumtyme moncke of Bury Saynt Edmonde yn Suffolk whych master John
Yxworth at the dyssolutyon of the abbey of Bury gave the same onto Roger duckett g.
then scolar of the gramer scole there who afterwarde the xv daye of maye a. d. 1573 gaue
agayne the same to Robert Chabenor gentyllman to the ende yl he should newly clothe
ytt and sett yt out accordyng to the worthynes of ytt. Roger duckett.
A shield sable, a saltire of two pointed sticks. Then six verses :
Quae genuit Virtus peperitque annosa vetustas
Flinc quoque nos foueat si pietatis amor
Vt veteris clypeum tritaui lustrauimus arma
In successores non peritura sumus
Germinat assidue florent quae insignia Virtus
Perpetuaque pios posteritate beant.
