It is to be noted that not much rain fell between the gth of April and 20th of May, but
there was dryness with considerable heat.

considerable heat. 10th and nth, rather strong N.W. wind. 7th, 8th, gth, and 10th, rain.
12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th, rain. 16th, very heavy rain, which, by its own power, together
with that of the preceding rains, penetrated considerably. 17th and 18th, light rain, igth,
moderate rain at Oxford ; but there was extremely heavy rain in certain parts at a distance
of seven English leagues10 from Oxford. 20th, heavy rain with severe hail and thunder at
Oxford, but in certain parts, at six leagues distance, there was not much rain. 21st,
much rain. 22nd, rain, with light wind. 23rd, light rain, with rather strong wind. 24th,
heavy rain, with much thunder and lightning. 25th, rain. Last day, light rain.

July. 1st and 3rd, light rain. 2nd, lightning at night until almost midnight. 4th,

August. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, extremely light rain. 2nd, W. wind. 3rd, very
strong W. wind. 5th and 6th, great heat, greater than there had been this year. 6th, in
the night, after midnight, heavy and frequent thunder, with vivid and frequent lightning and
light rain, and on the same day there was a very strong S.E. wind. 8th, gth, 10th and
nth, light rain, nth, very strong W. wind. 12th, and five following days, great heat.
18th, 19th and 20th, great heat. 21st, fog, which was a light rain, and great heat after
mid-day [nonam, i.e. mealtime]. 22nd, fog almost all day, and about sunset light rain in
little drops. 23rd, heavy rain in large drops, with heavy and frequent thunder and vivid
and frequent lightning, but after mid-day it was serene. 24th, serene before mid-clay, and
after it there was very heavy rain, with rather strong wind. 25th, very strong W.S.W.
wind, with rain after mid-day. 26th, very strong W.S.W. wind, with light rain. 27th,
stronger wind than on the 26th. 28th, very strong W.S.W. wind, but not so strong as on
the 27th.. 28th, light rain or mist. The 26th was rather cold.

September. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, fog in the morning. 4th, little lightning in the
night. 5th and 6th, rain. 6th, rather strong N.W. wind. 7th and three following days,
very strong W. and occasionally N. wind, nth, heavy rain, with very strong S.W. wind.
13th and three following days, rain, with very strong S.W. wind, gth and 10th, hail, but
heavier on the 10th. gth, thunder twice or thrice. 10th, thunder once. 17th and 18th,
heavy rain, with S.E. wind, igth and 20th, rain. 23rd, hoarfrost, and before that day,
that is, in the preceding week, there was hoarfrost once or twice. 24th, rain, with S.E.
wind. 25th, strong E. wind for a great part. 26th, very heavy rain, with very strong
