Messrs Payne, Robson, J. Nichols, Lowndes, Goldsmith, Rivington,
Buckland, Longman, Dilly, L. Davis, Law, Baldwin, Wilkie,
Hayes, Carnan, Murray.
“ 1. Agreed unanimously that a complete and elegant Edition of
the Works of Dr Johnson shall be printed.
“ 2. It is the opinion of this Meeting that the Work should be
printed a full sized medium Octavo.
“3. A Committee of Ten Gentlemen to be appointed ; which it is
intended shall be an open Committee.
“ 4. The following Gentlemen are appointed a Committee (the
names follow).
“5. The Committee are empowered to make an agreement with
Sir John Hawkins for his Life of Dr Johnson, and as Editor of his
works and to conduct the Edition.
“ 5 (for 6). That Mr Payne, Mr Cadell and Mr J. Nichols be
requested to wait on Sir John Hawkins to consult with him on
the Business, and to make an Agreement if they find it expedient.”
