Flute ; “ now comes the book of I.ieder which is to be your very
own property ” his Father’s ill-health ; Schlesinger plays cards
with Mendelssohn’s Father ; the Dirichlets (Mendelssohn’s sister
Rebecca married Professor Dirichlet) ; a Septett written for the
Philharmonic Society; praises that Society; his Symphony;
his third Concert, his first Concert; Mendelssohn presented the
receipts to the Philharmonic ; his Symphony in D, Concerto, and
Sonata by Beethoven ; the Midsummer Night’s Dream—divine
and heavenly ; at his second Concert gave his Meerestille and
Capriccio in Bj> minor, besides playing a Concerto by Bach and
Sonata by Beethoven, Milder (prima donna, Berlin till 1829) sang
Gluck ; the third Concert will include The Isles of Fingal, Walpurgis
Night, Beethoven Concerto, Sonata by Weber, which Mendelssohn
will play with Barmann (clarionet) ; Meyerbeer ; Graf Redern’s
(of the Royal Opera House, Berlin) affection for Mendelssohn ;
the Count has ordered Scribe to write him a libretto ; Mme
Devrient; his Mother’s dangerous illness; his Rondo; his
Melusine ; The Lower Rhine Festival, 18 May ’34 ; his Oratorio,
the Original Composition of his Mae-lied, 4 lines of music and words,
occurs here in this letter. Etc.
The 3 MSS. by Mendelssohn include a drawing of heads by him,
one of which is his own handsome profile. The letter from his
little son Felix was written just .before his death (at 8 years of
age).
The MS. Score of “ O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden ” is dated
Vienna, 12 Sept. 1830, and was written for Chorus and Orchestra.
It was performed at Leipzig on 4 Nov. 1853, at the Memorial
Festival on the anniversary of the great Composer’s death, 1847.
This Manuscript was written for Mendelssohn’s friend, Edward
Devrient, and is mentioned in “ My Recollections of Felix
Mendelssohn Bartholdy & his letters to me,” by Ed. Devrient,
1869. It is, however, Unpublished.
The above correspondence to Mde. Moscheles is entirely
unpublished. The Collection includes a Programme, in Men-
delssohn’s handwriting, conceived in fun, which is reproduced in
Moscheles’ Letters, p. 74.

Auto. Draft of two Letters. To the Rector of the Imperial
Academy, Berlin, etc., 1857, relative to election to the
Academy, his “ Robert le Diable” has secured the Votes
of the Paris Fine Arts Academy, and wishes the Berlin
Academy would give it a place in the library. Etc.
