Life of Frith in a Letter found in the Study of ye late
Rev. Mr Josh. Belcher of Dedham in New England as
an Ansr. to ye Question, “ How to live in this World, so
as to live in Heaven.” MS. 2 pp. folio. (Circa 1775.)—
Gretton (Ellen). Her Autograph MS. Autobiography.
Annotated in another hand for publication (?). 69 pp.
folio. (Circa 1800.) Contains notes on the persecution
of an early Methodist. Mentions Whitfield in America',
Wesley’s preachers. Wesley was much offended when a
hymn was sung intimating that Christ died for all men.
“ Meeting with dear Mr John Wesley ... I was favor’d with
traveling in his chaise which was far more proper for me
than riding on horseback—it pleased my gracious Lord
to give me favour in the eyes of this his dear Servant and
I experienced in the excurtion he kindly invited me to
take with him the most tender Parental care and affection
as tho’ I had been his daughter—may my God reward
him for every token of Love and tenderness to his un-
worthy creature—we parted at Nottingham with much
regret and I was soon after seized with a dysentery which
brought me almost to the Gates of Death . . . desir’d
leave to consult Mr Wesley [relative to marrying Mr
Courcy] accordingly I wrote informing him ... be not
yoaked with unbelievers—Mr W(esley) in return said
Mr C- did not fall under that description.”-—C. (A).
