lateral ventricles to communicate with each other, and with the third ven-
tricle *.
But it may be obferved,
i. That no author has delineated the beginning os the passages by which
the lateral ventricles can difcharge their contents into the third ventricle.
2. Is a sew have defcribed the place where we mail in reality sind such a
communication, there is fome reason to suppose that they had been led to
the mention os that place, by taking it for granted that the anterior hole
os the third ventricle served such a purpose, rather than srom their having
actually seen the pasTage, as they have not painted, and do not describe its
appearance before the fornix is raised \.
2. Thofe who described an anterior hole under the name os Vulva, have
described also a pofterior, under the name os Anus; which they supposed
to communicate with the anterior ventricles J. Yet it will appear, that this
place (which is bounded behind by the pineal gland and its connection to
the commissura cerebri posterior, at the sides, by the peduncles, or medul-
lary processes, srom the pineal gland to the thalami nervorum opticorum,
and before, by the conjoined thalami nervorum opticorum) is completely
Ihut by a vascular membrane between it and the sornix.

sormer authors, and had particularly examined the subjedt, have doubted
of, or denied fuch communications of the lateral ventricles with each other,
