HO the foregoing descriptions of the plates, and of the tombs to which these plates
refer, we have now to add illustrations of six tombs which contained nothing of
importance except pottery :—

Tomb yy. — Small rock tomb, very deep and full of earth ; contained besides the pottery,
Fig. 72, No. 1129-1134, three narrow gold bands. The pottery numbered 866-871 on Fig. 72
is from an uncertain tomb. »

Tomb yj (Nos. 1129-1134). Uncertain (Nos. 866-871)

Fig. 72.

Tomb 48.—12 ft. below surface, built of small stones, 6 ft. 6 in. long, 5 ft. wide, 6 ft. high;
contained also some objects in gold, a bronze bowl, a porcelain cup, and fragments of porcelain and
ivory.

Tomb 51.-—23 ft. below surface, with water at bottom. No. 981.—Fragment of chariot vase.
No. 982.—Ivory vase.

Tomb 70.—Deep shaft from which two tombs opened out, doors in position. Besides the
pottery, Fig. 75, Nos. 1113-1120, there were found a gold earring and two gold flies.

Tomb 83.—Deep cave-like tomb with three chambers, each having door in position. Outside,
near the surface, were found two small clay balls with inscriptions running in a line round them,
cut in the clay previous to firing. The one consists of Cypriote characters, the other resembles the
writing called by Mr. Arthur Evans " pictographs." For the pottery, see Fig. 74.
