Tomb 198-9.—Two caves, both of irregular shape, having a common entrance into a shaft. The shaft contained a layer
2 ft. 6 in. thick of broken pottery, none of which was certainly late. The eastern cave contained 2 ft. 6 in. of
compact bones, interspersed with nuggets of gold, silver, br6nze, and iron. The western cave had few bones,
and no nuggets. Both contained some very large wide-mouthed amphorae.
Gold. Blocks, and chips of gold, cut from bar (cf. p. 102); scraps of leaf, wire, etc.; one gold stud
Silver. Blocks, similar to those in gold, but corroded.
Bronze. Blocks, as the above ; eight fibulae ; one spiral; one spear-head with socket; one pin with ivory head ; two
handles of bowls; two bracelets; spatulae, etc.; a mass of calcined bones, embedded in molten bronze.
Ivory. Three scarabs (Fig. 147, Nos. 11-13).
Porcelain. Scarab (Fig. 147, No. 14).
Sard. Beads.
Glass. Variegated and plain beads.
Bone. Handle with geometric pattern.
Pottery. Twelve large amphorae, patterns on neck, and concentric circles on shoulder; two flat flasks; four barrel

Tomb 201.—Remains of a Roman tomb, fallen in, about 8 ft. down. Below this, another tomb, with remains of broken pottery,
etc., as in preceding tomb.

flower and rosette; four gold-plated rosettes, stamped in silver; seven earrings; six spirals; seven small spirals;
three rings with scarabs.
Bronze. Mirror; two spatulae.

Porcelain. Egyptian eye, with silver wire for suspension.

In the shaft was found the painted stele of a seated woman with overturned calathos (p. 94).
