All the chairs have had brackets, projecting about
three inches in front, so as to form capitals to the
pilaster. These have been broken away, except in
the case of No. 1, where a single bracket has been
preserved.
In several of the statues the upper panel at
the side of the chair is made convex, so as to
represent the cushion on which the figure is
seated. The sides of these cushions are orna-
mented with the Ma3ander and zigzag patterns,
which were probably painted. These are represented
