The PCMA Polish-Egyptian Restoration Mission to Marina el-Alamein completed
the 13th season of work at the site of the early Roman town from 15 April to 30 May
2007.1 The program covered the complex of 2nd to 4th century AD houses marked as HI, H2
and H21c on the plan and the main town square [Fig, 1 ], where the mission restored the
outer colonnade of the South Portico and the bench running along its back wall.
The mission also undertook in extra time to inventory the architecture south of the Porum,
where an SCA team and the ARCE-EAP project directed by architect Agnieszka
Dobrowolska conducted investigations in 2006 and 2007. The inventorying also included the
bath complex to the north of the town square.
1 The team included Prof. Dr. Stanislaw Medeksza, director; Dr. Rafal Czerner, Wieslaw Grzegorek and Malgorzata
Krawczyk-Szczerbmska, architects; Dr. Grazyna Bqkowska and Monika Wi^ch, archeologists; Piotr Zambrzycki, Joanna
Lis and Irma Fuks-Rembisz, stone and sculpture restorers; Prof. Dr. Janusz Skoczylas and Malgorzata Mrozek-Wysocka,
geoarcheologists; and periodically archaeologists Renata Kucharczyk (ancient glass specialist) and Dr. Grzegorz
Majcherek (pottery specialist), who also kindly consulted the coin finds. The Egyptian side was represented by Mahmud
Yasin, SCA Marina Site Director, Naama Sanad Yakoub, SCA Inspector, and Ahmed Rashad Ahmed, restorer, to whom
we are indebted for their assistance throughout the season.
The Mission is grateful, as always, to the Supreme Council of Antiquities and to Secretary General Dr. Zahi Hawass.
AKME Zdzislaw Wisniewski again provided additional funding for the fieldwork. Iwona Zych kindly edited the
published version of this report.
