.BRIMSTONE CORNER
From an old painting by Philip Harry, about 1843. This shows
Tremont Street, from Park Street Church, looking South. The
famous Paddock elms are seen behindthe Commonfence; the
walk under thein a gazetteer of 1846 calls “one of the most
delightful promenades in the world. ” At the right are the Steps
and doorwayof Park Street Church, erected in 1809 from designs
by Peter Banner, an English architect, and still, in practically
unchanged condition, a Boston landmark.
