which came into being in the circle of Cracow humanists and erudites, Wit Stwosz exceeded the stylistic and content
barrier of the late Gothic monumental sculpture, and created the Renaissance masterpiece which could be reckoned to
be so great an achivement as the pope Sixtus IV's tomb by Antonio del Pollaiuolo in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
Wit Stwosz's figure of Casimir Jagellon as David — "Manu fortis" and "Desiderabilis", emperor and prophet, though
the figure of the dead man, may by compared, in the force of its psychological expression, monumentalism and
humanistic sensé of high human dignity, with the figure of Moses carved by Michelangelo on Julius Ils tomb monument.
