The Continent lying opposite the southernmost point of America is called Bra-
sielie regio. The most interesting characteristic of the globe is the fact
that the results of Verrazzano’s travels arc marked by ’’terra Verrazzana”.
Except on the maps of Girolamo Verrazzano (Giovanni’s brother) of 1529,
the name is nowhere found.
In any case this globe dated 1530 in two places, in the earliest to show Ver-
razzano’s discoveries. An earlier cartographic mention of these discoveries is
only to be found on Vesconto di Maggiolo’s Map (1527) and that of Girolamo
Verrazzano (1529). — A skilfully worked bronze foot in imitation of a con-
temporary model has been added to this most important contribution to the
history of the early discoveries of America. M. 30 000 —
We will gladly send photos and reproductions on application.
