This is an ancient name of the district of Guge. If we are allowed to view Shang Shung
as a phonetic modification of Zhong Zhong, which is translated in Schmidt's "Dictionary,1'
p. 494, by excavated, uneven, it might be connected with the deep cuttings and erosions of
the rivers, and translated by eroded country.
