nation of thefe may be omitted, and we may proceed as
follows:
Operation.—Draw the perpendicular A D equal to the fides
of the original fquare, and draw the vifuals D s, A j. Then, on
the ground line G R, lay on a fpace from i to C equal to the
diftance of the fquare from the front of the picture. Make C N
equal A D, and draw C d, N d, cutting the vifual A j* in I and M.
Laftly, from I and M raife perpendiculars to K L, and the fquare
will be reprefented as required.
Obfervations.—The iides IK, ML, are perpendicular to the
ground; wherefore, according to Cafe 4, page 216, they are the
reprefentations of lines originally perpendicular, as AD; and
being perpendicular to the ground, confequently they are pa-
rallel to the picture, and therefore can have no vanifhing point.
But the fides K L, IM, are perpendicular to the pi&ure; there-
fore they vanifh to the center..
