lines parallel to G R, the ground line, and there will be pro-
duced the number of fquares required. But if it be neceifary to
fill up the picture with thefe fquares, and there be no room for
laying A D on the ground line beyond b, then continue the laft
parallel line roabc the whole extent of the picture; and take
o a equal to the fide of the fquare, and repeat it a, b, c, as may be
neceifary. From j, draw j b, produced forward to the ground
line. In the fame manner draw j c forward, and fo on re-
peatedly. Then, laftly, draw parallel lines from the former
fquares, by which means the picture will be filled up to the
fides.
Obfervations.—The diagonal line bd pafies through the
oppofite angles of the large fquare A, r, b, which includes
all the other; and a line through the oppofite angles of
any of the fmall fquares, will alfo tend to the fame point of
diftance d.
