residence of a Dutch farmer, with its adjacent buildings, and a
cluster of lofty trees rising in the centre at the side of a barn.
Five cows, two pigs, three sheep, and some poultry, are dis-
tributed over the fore-ground ; and among them may be noticed
two women and a man : one of the former stands at the head

meadow, with a cottage enclosed in a fence at the side, and a
shepherd seated watching his ssock, which, with a horse and a
cow, are browsing around him. This picture was painted by
the artist when only sixteen years old.
