The scene, to the left, is composed of a broken sandy bank,
bounded by a row of trees, descending into a road, which
gradually recedes towards the distance, and is there inter-
cepted by a farm-house with a cornfield. In the foreground,
which is broken by a sedgy pool, a lady and gentleman are
