Section E.
LEADED GLASS
WILLIAM MORRIS & COMPANY
(RUSKIN HOUSE), Ltd.
Rochester Row, Westminster
Make Leaded Lights and Metal Casements for windows. The cost of leaded
lights of good 2J-oz. sheet-glass and stout leads to a pattern of simple rectangles
varies from 1 /- to 1 /3 per foot super. A steel-stiffened lead may be employed
where saddle-bars are undesirable at no extra cost. All leaded lights made at
Ruskin House are specially subjected to oil baths, and are guaranteed absolutely
weather-proof, being tested before despatch. Colour when introduced is
employed sparingly, and is of soft neutral greens, citrons, and purples.
Simplicity is the keynote both in colour and design, and a watchful eye is
maintained over the Studio by Mr. William Morris to see that nothing
emanates of a restless or unhappy character. Metal Casements vary in price
according to size; but here, again, as in the glazing shops, simplicity is studied
before everything. Extravagant complex sections are not employed, but an
absolutely weather-proof casement is produced, hand-made, with welded or
brazed corners and hangings, simple, sensible handles and stays, at a much
less cost than usually obtains.
