perfect bindings in leather have been shown at all the
larger exhibitions during the past decade. At the present
time he conducts the professional school belonging to the
Bookbinders’ Guild at Berlin. Illustrations of his work
will be found on page 142. The binding on the left is
executed in light blue ecrase leather with red and black
appliques of leather and gilding. The other binding is
in light grey morocco leather, decorated with red leather
and gilding.

One of the most versatile artists of the modern Glasgow
school, Miss King, would have earned distinction had her
claim rested solely on her book illustrations. But she has
not confined herself to this branch of art entirely, for she
excels as a designer of jew'elry, silver-work, wall-papers,
fabrics, posters, bookplates, bookbindings, and interior
decoration. Her work is well known to readers of The
Studio, having been reproduced in its pages on several
occasions. Her book illustrations are always distinguished
by the originality of the conception and the daintiness of
