HODEL, Joseph A., 4 Colquitt
Street, Liverpool.
Mr. Hodel is a designer of and
worker in silver and metal, and has
been particularly successful with
his jewelry, two examples of which
appear on pages 142 and 143—an opal
and silver pendant and silver buckle
set with turquoises and pearls. A
flagon, executed in silver, is illustra-
ted on page 142. Mr. Hodel’s work is
usually to be seen at the exhibi-
tions of the Arts and Crafts Society
in London and other important
collections of applied art. He has
recently been appointed instructor
in metal-work at the Liverpool
School of Art.

See page 9.
HIRTZ, Lucien, 51 rue des
Mathurins, Paris.
M. Lucien Hirtz has made himself
famous as a worker in enamel, but
he might have followed the art of
painting with equal distinction.
His enamelled bowl, illustrated on
page 141, is one of his most beautiful
works, but it loses considerably in
a reproduction in black-and-white.
It is the property of Lazare Lowen-
stein, Esq., by whose kind permis-
sion it appears here. Monsieur
Hirtz is represented in the Luxem-
bourg Museum by a plaque with a
design depicting the heads of four
young girls, surrounded by floral
