Ghasm, but at Resapha-Sergiopolis; see Acta Sanctorum., 7 Oct. Accordingly, μ,εμόριον
in this inscription must be regarded as meaning ‘memorial chapel’ or ‘shrine’, perhaps
containing a cenotaph, or a reliquary of the two saints. The principal church at Umm
is-Surab also seems to have been a memorial of the same saints; see no. 51.
Moreover, the church at Zor'ah, according to the inscription on the lintel, contained a
relic of St. George; see C.I.G. 8627 = Wad. 2498 = A. A. E. S. 111 437^.
620. Sarcophagus. The lid of a sarcophagus found just outside the village, near
the southwest corner. Length 2.16 m. The inscription is on the left half of the
sloping top, and on a band below; the final letter runs over to the end of the lid.
Height of letters 8-1cm.

Stele. Found in the cemetery south of the village. The stone is in a
modern grave near the southwest corner of the
cemetery, and close to the road which leads to il-
Umtafiyeh. The base is embedded in the ground.
Θαρσί Μ]εγε0£ζ, ετών ί_. Height above the ground 55 cm.; width 26 cm.
The upper part of the face has been chipped off,
and only the latter portion of the inscription is
extant. Height of letters 41/2~7 cm·
On the name see no. 547. It may be a feminine
in Wad. 2386, or on the other hand an attempt at a masculine vocative;
see no. 441.
