Nagios, (son) of Khair, priest of (the) god Dusares, made the altar at his own
(expense) in (the) year 59. (164 A. D.)

notes to our no. 238. On the sanctuary from which this stone seems to have been
taken see no. 689.
Ναγιος does not seem to occur elsewhere; it is the Arabic name Nagi. On the
form Ναγγαι, which is found in Luke 111 26, see Lidzbarski, Eph. 1, p. 213 and 11, p. 16;
this name is perhaps to be connected with nagm, ‘star’. Χαφος is a common name.

707. Lintel. Over a doorway in the second story of a house in the southern
part of the village, a short distance west of the large sanctuary (see no. 706). Length
1.30 m.; height 24 cm. In the centre of the face is a sunken disk with an ornamental
floral pattern in relief. The upper right corner shows evidence of breakage, and the
fact that the inscription cannot be read as it now stands indicates that the right end
of the stone has been broken off. There was probably another disk on the right half
of the face corresponding to the one which is extant. The block was so high up that
it was very hard to read the letters.
