741. Length of the horizontal portion of the inscription 27^ cm.; space between
1. 2 and the beginning of the vertical portion 8x/2 cm.; height of
the vertical portion 22 cm.; length of the last four letters io1/^ cm.
Height of letters 1—41/2 cm.

{the} village of Tharbaia.
In 1. 2 Waddington read Γανιος, which would be in Arabic Ghanzy.
Our copy points to the common name Bavto;; see no. 209. Σαυαοος
is also found in Wad. 2542. On Αλεσος see no. 112. The κωυ,η
Θαρβαιων is probably, as Waddington suggests, the modern village of Tarba, which is
not far from in-Nemarah.

Εγλα or Εγιλα is probably, as Waddington pointed out, the ancient name of il-
‘Adjeilat, where an inscription was found reading of απο κωρ,ης Εγλωυ; see Wad. 2209.
The name is also found in no. 714.

This inscription is close to no. 742, and the two were combined by Waddington.
However, the difference in the height of letters, as well as the fact that in Wadding-
ton’s copy this inscription comes below no. 742, seems to tell against such a com-
bination.
