The letters ANU, found below the others in Waddington’s copy, are lacking in
Wetzstein’s reading as well as in ours, and we are inclined to believe that they do
not belong in this inscription. The letters A Y N do not fit into 'the name of the father,
and we believe that they are part of the name of the village, especially as they are
not in alignment with the patronymic, and it may be easily supposed that 1. 3 slanted
somewhat upward.

Waddington read this inscription in connection with no. 747 which is close to it,
but the two do not seem to have anything to do with each other.
We are uncertain as to the proper reading of the patronymic, especially as our
copy differs so materially from Waddington’s. Μ,αναος does not seem to occur elsewhere.
