BODEMCULTUR: De geschiedenis van het
ploegen. ed. Gerard Rooijakkers met bijdra-
gen van dr. Peter Meurkens en dr. Herman
Crompvoets. Limburgs Volkskundig Mu-
seum 1987. 147 p, 95 ill. 3 maps.
This pricely produced publication was
made in connection with an exhibition of ag-
ricultural tools and implements in the Lim-
burg Museum of »Volkskunde« in the old
castle 1986.
After a general introduction it contains a
main chapter on ploughing implements and
their functions, a short chapter on folklore
connected with these tools and a comprehen-
sive chapter on the sources as well as notes
and bibliography. In addition there is a cata-
logue of the exhibition. Although the book is
in Dutch everybody may benefit of its re-
ference to a great variety of implements, illu-
strations and written sources, especially con-
cerning the agricultural equipment of the lo-
wer Rhine-Valley from Mainz to the South-
Eastern part of the Low Countries.
Moreover in the periodical on Limburg lo-
cal history LIMBURG, Neerlands Volksle-
ven, vol. XXI No. 1 (Wassenaar 1971) pp. 97-
113. J. M. G. van der Poel has written a paper
on the Mecklenburger Haken’s introduction
to the Netherlands and the Rheinland
»Honsploeg« (illustrated).
