Church
stone tessellae; wall of ground story beneath windows illuminated by
sunlight; two entrance doors, reddish-brown tessellae.
Base line of edifice: two rows of gold and silver tessellae turned on all
faces above two rows of yellow-green opaque glass tessellae similar to
to those in the lightest band in section 2.
Apse: roof of seven leaves, the leaves with lower outline of greyish-blue;
wall of pale blue shaded at East end by rows of gold and silver tessellae
turned on all faces; two windows with rounded heads, each window
with two divisions, rendered as windows of dome.
South-West adjoining structure: the roof of six leaden leaves, treated
as roof of apse and outlined by dark-blue tessellae; pediment of
South front, gold and silver tessellae turned on all faces outlined by
dark blue tessellae with row of greyish-blue tessellae beneath; West
(lighted) side, blue tessellae as for the high lights of garments, partly
outlined in greyish-blue; two windows (placed high), double row of
gold and silver tessellae turned on all faces and one row of whitish
stone tessellae; shaded side, gold and silver tessellae turned on all faces
with an insertion of greyish-blue tessellae.
South-East adjoining structure: the roof is treated similarly; sunlight on
West side, yellow tessellae passing to blue ones; outline of West side
with angular turn at top, row of gold and silver tessellae turned on all
faces, among which are several reddish-brown tessellae; two windows
(placed high), one represented by double row of six tessellae, the other
by five tessellae bordered with whitish stone tessellae; West wall
separated from shaded South wall by outline partially of whitish stone
tessellae; South, shaded side, gold and silver tessellae turned on all faces
with vertical insertion of row of greyish-blue tessellae as with South-
west structure.

Enclosing circle: diameter, 0-403 m.; circumference, two rows of light
blue tessellae bounded within and without by a single row of gold
tessellae set vertically; the field, of horizontal rows of gold tessellae
set at an angle.
Letters: height of‘M’, 0-183 nr.; height of‘P’, 0-186 m.; darkest blue
opaque glass tessellae, among which are scattered very large and intense
gold and silver tessellae turned on all faces; partial outlines of gold and
silver tessellae set vertically. The upright strokes are of three to four
tessellae in width, as if determined by the pressure of a brushstroke.
The loop of the ‘M’ is three tessellae deep at its lowest droop; the curve
of the ‘P’ thickens from one tessellae to two.
Abbreviation mark: length, 0-202 m.; dark blue tessellae completely out-
lined by a single row of gold tessellae set vertically.
The circle, the abbreviation mark, and the letters of this monogram were
found to be almost intact; several cubes needed strengthening without
displacing.

Enclosing circle: diameter, 0-396 m.; construction, similar to the other
monogram. This right circle is drawn higher than the left.
Letters: height of ‘0’, 0-18 m.; height of Y’, 0-175 m-’» construction,
similar to the other monogram, but one half is outlined with gold
tessellae. The hoop of the ‘0’ thickens from one tessella to two; the
top of the left stroke of the ‘Y’ is one tessella in breadth, the stroke
widens to two; the right stroke is two tessellae broad.
Abbreviation mark: length, 0-198 m.; two rows of tessellae.
