ROME. ip
Why Ihould’st thou tty to hide thy selt
in Youth?
Impartial Proferpine beholds the Truth,
And, laughing at To fond and vain a
Task,
Will drip thy hoary Noddle of its
Mask.

a young Nero, which ihowsus the Form
of an ancient Bulla on the Bread, which
is neither like a Heart, as Macrobiusde-
scribes it, nor altogether resembles that
in Cardinal Chigi's Cabinet; so that with-
out edablishing a particular Indance in-
to a general Rule, we ought, in Subjefts
of this Nature, to leave room for the
Humour of the Artid or Wearer. There
are many Figures of Gladiators at Rome^

of the Retiarius, the Samnite, or the
Antagonid to the Pinnirapus. But what
I could not find among the Statues, I
met with in Two Antique Pieces os
Mosaic, which are in the Pbsicssion of
a Cardinal. The Retiarius is engag’d
with the Samnite, and has had so lucky
a Throw, that his Net covers the whole
Body of his Adversary from Head to
Foot, yet his Antagonid recover’d him-
self out of. the Toiles, and was Con-
queror;
