Dans ce vase en bronze fondu à cire perdue, la matière sembla
animée. L'artiste, en effet, en modelant les animaux chimé-
riques, les oiseaux, les feuillages, les fruits, les eaux et les
nuages qui décorent le pied, la panse et le col de l'objet, semble
avoir donné à tout cela l'existence, sans détruire pourtant
la forme adoptée pour l'objet et sans que la raison ni les yeux
soient choqués de cette vérité mêlée au fantastique.

In tbis cast vase the bronze seems as ifit were, animated.
The artist in modelling the chimerical animais, birds, foliage,
fruit, waters and clouds which decorate the foot, body and
neck of the article, seems to have infused life in ail bis
créations without impairing the shape of the vase and this
combination of the fantastical with the truthful, offends neitne
the sight nor the mind.
