Les casque3 eu heaumes étaient au moyen âge l'armure de
;ète des gentilshommes. Ils ont pris successivement les formes
les plus variées et souvent les plus étranges ; ils étaient tou-
jours fort lourds et la visière mobile s'ahaissant et se levant
à volonté. On distingue généralement dans un heaume : le
timbre, la crête, le cimier, la visière, le nasal, le ventait, la
mentonnière, le porte-pennache.

The helmets, during the middle âges, were the head armour
of the nobles. Their shape constantly varied, it was often very
strange, but they were always eitremely heavy and the viser
always moveable.
The principal parts of the helmet were : the helmet proper,
the crest, the visor or beaver, the nasal, the check pièces,
and the (rie or hera'dic crest.
