liistory of Samson flgured in five épisodes.— In the above de-
sign evidently intendcd to serve as a counterpart to it, Etienne
de Laune bas followed the very same disposition — i. e. four
oval cartouches grouped round a central circular " motive ",
represent scènes from Moses' life. The variety and good taste
of the ornaments fllling the voids betwoea the cartouches are a
romarkable proof of the cloverness of the artist.
The central composition shows the people healed by the
brazon serpent.
Samson'on cinq épisodes.—Dans cette composition, évidemment
conçue et exécutée pour servir de pendant à la première,
l'-tienne de Laune nous montre, dans une disposition identique,
c est-à-diro dans des cartouches elliptiques, groupés autour d'un
motif central circulaire, des scènes diverses de la vie de Moïse. —
On voit, au contre, le serpent d'airain.— On remarquera combien
'es motifs variés qui séparent chacun des cartouches sont gra-
cieux et de bon goût, et combien ils témoignent de la grande
facilité de composition du maître.
