CLOUS DE PORTE, EN BRONZE ET FER FORGÉ.
The nail, fig. 5163, cornes from the door of thc
Salamanca Institute; it has been executed by the
repoussé process; fig. 5104 gives the section. The
large nail, fig. 5169, belongs to the door of the Univer-
sity of the same town; it is very rich, and fig. 5171
gives its section. The nail, fig. 5172, is also from
Salamanca, but it has been eut out from the métal.
Fig. 5108 cornes from Zamora and fig. 5166, 5167 from
the doors of the Toiedo cathédral : these repoussé
nails hâve been executed with utmost delicacy.
Fig. 5170 belongs to the city of Cordoba.
AU these articles pertain more properiy to the gold-
smith than to the ironsmith’s art; they generally
dénoté a marvellous skiil and often a patience quite
at par with the skiil. We bave thought proper to
show upon the same sheet ail these nails due to
Spanish workmanship.

Le clou, figure 5105, provient de la porto de l’Institut, à
Salamanque, et a été exécuté en repoussé; la figure 5164
montre la coupe. Le grand clou, figure 5109, provient de la
porte de l’Université, dans la même ville; il est d’une
richesse extrême, et la coupe se voit figure 5171. Le clou,
figure 5172, provient également de Salamanque, mais il a
été taillé on bloc dans le métal. La figure 5108 provient
de Zamora. Les figures 5166-5107 sont recueillies sur des
portes de Tolède et ont été exécutées en métal repoussé avoc
la plus grande délicatesse. Enfin la figure 5170 provient do
Cordoue.
Tous ces objets sont plutôt de l’orfèvrerie que de la fer-
ronnerie, et dénotent presque toujours l’adresse et souvent
la patience les plus merveilleuses. Nous avons cru utile de
réunir sur une même page tous ces clous de provenance
espagnole.
