PAVAGE DES FABRIQUES DE CAFFAGIOLO.
(COLLECTION DE M. DE BEAÜCOIIPS.)
La collection de M. de Bcaucorps contient
une série de carreaux de Caffagiolo, du
commencement du xvc siècle, ou même
de la fin du xivc, présentant les
mômes tons et des dessins presque
identiques. Le carreau cen-
tral est toujours formé de
lettres gothiques. Nous
montrons ici un M et
un B. Nous avons
isolé la lettre B,
disposée en bas de la planche. Les carreaux
forment huit pans. Tous montrent autour
de la lettre centrale des animaux variés
à fond de feuillage d’une exécution
libre et cavalière. Le motif ci-
dessous montre un oiseau, un
lion héraldique, un chien
avec un collier au cou
et un cerf broutant
un feuillage à
ses pieds.

The collection of M. Bcaucorps represents a
sériés of brick paving executed by Caffagiolo at,
the beginning of tlie xv1*1 and perhaps at the end
of the xiv1’1 century. Thcy ail bave the same form
and very nearly rcproduce the same design. The
central brick always bears a gothic letter. We
show here an M and a B : the letter B is figured
alone at the foot of the engraving.
The pavement forms an octagone, and around
the central letter shows animais surrounded
with foliage of a frec and bold execution : the
above design represents a bird, an herahlic lion,
a dog with a collar round its ncck and a stag
browsing.
