DÉCOR ÉMAILLÉ.
COUPE EN FAÏENCE ITALIENNE
AU TIERS DE L’ORIGINAL.

Bien que le joli plat émaillé, ou coupe, de, M. Boy soit rendu à une échelle un peu moins
grande que l’original, les finesses n’ont nulle part disparu, ni sur le marli ni sur le fond. Celui-
ci a reçu un décor un peu plus foncé que les autres parties de la coupe. Nous signalerons, parmi
les motifs dos entrelacs, des lapins aux oreilles dressées, et, en face, un sujet d’aspect lugubre
dont on ne s’explique pas l’intention. La figure d’enfant qui occupe le centre du plat est en brun
clair, ainsi que le sol où elle pose. Des lumières, ou rehauts ingénieux, paraissent obtenus à
l’aide üu grattoir. Une banderole, ou phylactère, se voit près de l’enfant nu qui s’appuie sur un
bâton.

Although the charming enamelled plate or cup of M. Boy is reproduced on a rather smaller
scale than full size, the beauties hâve notvhore disappeared, neither on the border or on the bot-
tom which lias a rather darker colouring than the other parts.
We point out as worthy of remark the design of the fret Work, the rabbits with their ears
erect, and opposite to them a dismal subject of which one cannot wcll explain the meaning :
the figure of the child in the centre of the plate is of a light brown colour like the ground on
which it stands; ingenious lights and shadows seem to hâve been obtaincd by the lielp of the
scralching-tool.
