altar (?); she has hair in a knot, earrings, long chiton, and himation.

style, but careless. Eye in profile, with eyelash. Below, a thin red line.
Nike, in a girt Doric chiton, with hair looped up, standing to r., holding out
both hands over a spiral plant which rises from the ground.

Franks, Esq. Wants handle and neck. Surface of figure injured. Graceful style, but careless.

E 665. ARYBALLOS. Ht. 7-J in. Athens, 1813. Burgon Coll. Nearly intact. Graceful
style. Brown edge of hair ; the down on the check and upper lip of the youth is indicated
by brown dots. Eye in profile, the pupil a complete circle. The outline of the hair is wavy;
in that of the youth, the actual hair is not waved at the edge, and each wave of the red outline
has been filled with a brush-mark in brown. Below, a strip of egg pattern. Round the base of
the neck, tongue pattern.
Heads of youthful male and female figure, confronted : the female head on
the 1. has her hair looped up with a sphendone decorated with stars, and wears
earrings, necklace, and a wreath. The male head wears a wreath and mantle.
Between them a flower with two spirals springs from the ground.
